Business & Marketing ABC Green Home Opens 3 Models Ready for Zero Net Energy Regulations

The ABC Green Home celebrates as the slab is poured for the first of three Net Zero, LEED, sustainable homes being constructed on-site in Fullerton, Calif. The ABC Green Home Project is a series of high performance American homes by Peninsula Publishing and Habitat For Humanity Orange County that are built exclusively using building materials donated from the advertisers for both Green Home Builder magazine and Builder and Developer magazine. Designed by John Danielian and his team at Danielian Associates Architects, the contemporary architecture reflects the Eichler neighborhoods nearby. These energy efficient homes use very little energy and water; as an added bonus for the community, these model homes will be designated for U.S. Veteran families after they are used to demonstrate best practices in energy efficiency, design, technology, and construction.

Recently, Owens Corning has worked as an extension of the team assembled by Habitat for Humanity for project ABC Green Home 3.0. This project is using familiar insulation and fiberglass solutions that easily integrate into the design plans and deliver the highest standard of energy efficiency in production-built homes.

In addition to providing building science expertise and performance modeling, two proven Owens Corning building science-backed system solutions were specified for the attic and walls. The use of these product solutions will help ABC Green Home 3.0 meet the California Energy Commission (CEC) new residential requirements for the 2016 Residential Building Energy Efficiency Standards code and prepare for the energy-use reduction goals targeting Zero Net Energy (ZNE) use in all new homes by 2020.

The Owens Corning® ProPink® High Performance Conditioned Attic System, a below roof deck engineered insulating system, was specified to add thermal, air and moisture control at the roof line that works to optimize home comfort, energy efficiency and durability. Additionally, the Owens Corning® ProPink Complete Blown-in Wall System brings thermal and moisture protection to homes for added comfort, performance and energy savings.

As a result of the collaboration between Owens Corning and ABC Green Home 3.0, the Veteran homeowners who will ultimately reside in the homes will enjoy enhanced comfort with reduced heating and cooling costs, reduced environmental impact and peace of mind.
